Community Action Nexus (CANB)

Community Action Nexus was conceived to fill the need to support individuals and organisations working to conserve, protect and rehabilitate natural ecosystems including forests, rivers, lakes, swamps, oceans as well to conserve and rehabilitate biodiversity and implement climate action.

Many individuals and organisations are working in these areas but have little to no financial, infrastructural, and organisational support. The work is time and resource consuming, and these advocates and activists frequently use their own free time and resources. Their effort, impact and reach are limited by this lack of resources though their contribution is vital.

Although they are resource starved, they do not have the necessary resources, including staff, network, and time to source for funding to sustain and further their work. Lately, it has become evident that our ecosystems are under serious threats from mismanagement, abuse, misuse, corporate and individual greed, and selfishness as well as adverse climate events.

It is imperative that those on the frontlines of ecosystems conservation, protection, and rehabilitation, be sufficiently funded and supported to intervene, mitigate, and adapt to challenges faced by the ecosystems.

Community Action Nexus, aspires and commits to sourcing, funding, connecting, and supporting these individuals and organisations so that they focus on doing what they do best without having to split their focus.

The founders, in their own work in these areas have connected well with potential funders from across the board and are well positioned to source for funding and support deserving and impactful individual and organisational activists and advocates.

Mission

3. Collaborate with individual, organisational, public and private academic institutions for research, education, capacity building, training and development initiatives, projects, activities and programmes.

Name

The name reflects the objectives of the organisation.

Community – refers to the activists, organisations and individuals requiring funding and support. It also refers to the individuals and organisations that have the funding and support that is required.

Action – refers to the activities, events, projects and programmes that are being implemented by the activists, organisations and individuals requiring the funding and support for these actions.

Nexus – refers to the central role performed by the organisation, that is to be a nexus that brings together those requiring funding and support with those providing funding and support.

The Objectives

1. Environment – supporting individuals and organisations working in the environmental and climate conservation, protection, rehabilitation, rejuvenation, transformation, mitigation, intervention, adaptation, resilience and placemaking space

2. Science - supporting individuals and organisations working in the promotion, development, and research in the science of environmental and climate conservation, protection, rehabilitation, rejuvenation, transformation, mitigation, intervention, adaptation, resilience and placemaking space as well as general scientific pursuit

3. Education - supporting individuals and organisations working in the education, training, capacity building, awareness, and skills development the environmental and climate conservation, protection, rehabilitation, rejuvenation, transformation, mitigation, intervention, adaptation, resilience, and place making with a particular emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M) and other fields or subjects in general.
